Maximizing the Potential of Legal Networking Events
Autism is a condition that affects many people, including legal professionals and with whom I have shared roadmap insights at comprehensive legal networking events. I found that attending legal networking events was of great benefit as this provided an opportunity for me to meet new people who are in the legal sector in Singapore. In that respect too, I sought to share awareness and support for Autism Network Singapore’s theme “Strengthening Autism Awareness Through Community Inclusion” through conversations that I had with some attendees of legal networking events. A legal networking event includes events such as conferences, seminars and lunches. This can also include curated in-person open networking events. The purpose of these events can be work-relations based such as meeting new people in the legal sector in Singapore as well as connecting and rekindling conversations that were started at the last legal networking event.
Furthermore, there can be opportunities to build relationships with individuals who may not be in the legal sector as there can be other sectors that overlap or correspond with the legal sector. For example this could be fields such as political, medical, IT, Insurance, Investor Relations, and Networking with stakeholders outside Singapore. Moreover, there can be discussions that are very specific and tailored to the aspirations of the different legal departments whose members attended the legal networking event. When it comes to being involved in the Autism Community and Autism Network Singapore, this is not a one-off thing but a continuous process to facilitate awareness and support. For those in different sectors, networking provides opportunities to do so by working with individuals and groups to make a difference.
From the perspective of those in the legal sector, one example that I can share is the call to action in support of Autism Network Singapore which seeks to made a difference in Singapore from the bottom up, by providing parents of children with Autism (ASD) with the appropriate resources, network and socialisation support to develop their children to realise their full potential in life. This can be done by sharing impactful information through conversations and speaking engagements at legal networking events. By planning such legal networking events, reaching out to individuals in the legal sector who may be involved with advocacy groups or who might have encountered issues with autism in their family, and providing a platform through which individuals can advocate for a cause, this can help to develop the necessary support to make the goals of Autism Network Singapore a success.
With this in mind, the case of Monsters of Institutes is something that we can all get behind and support. They are looking to make quality education, care and play services available for all children with Autism and they plan to provide a one-stop centre for children with Autism (ASD) and their families through their range of programs and services at their future campus. This would include educational, developmental, vocational and therapeutic services. They also intend to open up a public platform to enabling access to quality care, education and play for all children with Autism. It has recently been observed that forty parents per month had enquired about quality care and education for their child with Autism. Of sixteen children with Autism that were referred to Monsters of Institute, seven were unable to access suitable care and education as there was no vacancies available.
As such, it is important to apply due diligence and careful planning and evaluation when making decisions, as with everything else in life and especially when it comes to doing things well for Autism. I have been fortunate to have learned from LandBiz Consultants Pte Ltd in what it means to network effectively with individuals. They have also highlighted the value of sharing insights based on their experiences as well as experiences of others and how this has helped some to make informed decisions thus enabling them to achieve their personal and professional aspirations. They have also shown us what it looks like when someone has a clear vision and an understanding of the personal development growth cycle with what matters most to them.
Having had the privilege to connect with individuals from Landbiz and from other companies in Singapore where I have had the opportunity to speak at their events about the legal industry in Singapore, I have come to learn about the contours of the legal industry in Singapore and how we can all work together to bridge the gaps that exist between the different members of the legal field. The call to action is to join Autisable™ Singapore and speak with them if you are a parent of a child with Autism to share your experiences. You can also attend Autisable™ Singapore’s dinner soiree happening on 19 August 2017 to socialize and make new friends from the onset. It would be wonderful if you could also support them by networking them and spreading the word about Autisable™ Singapore in person and online and share what they are doing with your contacts while using the hashtag #AutismNetwork. They also welcome collaboration with organisations and interested individuals on how to strengthen Autism awareness through community inclusion in Singapore.
